In Sink: A year of growth and change … it’s ‘safe’ to say

Dean Sink
Where did the year go? It seems like only a couple weeks ago I was writing about our amazing teammate safety record in the January 2018 issue of The Spirit. Back then we were working on 260 consecutive days without a lost-time accident. Well, we extended that record to 410 straight days. We follow a simple formula here at Mickey: Safety + Quality + Productivity = Great Products and Happy Customers. It all starts with safety.
Back in my January column I also introduced Mike Tucker as Mickey?s new EVP, Strategic Growth & Business Development. At the end of this month I will hand Mike the reins to Mickey Truck Bodies when he becomes President & CEO, the first time in our 114-year history that a non-Mickey family member will be at the helm. Mike joined Mickey with proven leadership skills and an outstanding track record within our core business, and quickly earned the respect and support of the entire Mickey team. He is a great leader for a great company. You?re in very good hands.
In between our safety record and the appointment of a new CEO, Mickey once again was named to the Grant Thornton North Carolina 100® list, which ranks the state?s largest private companies. We moved up to #65 in 2018 from #71 a year ago. I know that bigger is not always better, but our growth has been very positive for our teammates, customers and community. In 2018 we added over 50 team members, including experience professionals who have strengthened our Engineering, HR and Van Body operations.
As for me, I?m not going anywhere. With Mike at the helm, I?m going to focus on even more growth opportunities for our company and our teammates. So, this will be my last In-Sink for now, at least on a regular basis. I may write for The Spirit from time to time. But I?ll read every issue. I hope you do, too. I don?t care how the saying goes, as far as I?m concerned, ?There?s no news like Mickey news!?
Happy holidays. And happy reading.
