What’s Behind ‘The Best Year Ever?’
Following a week-long business trip earlier this year to visit various Mickey customers around the country, Mickey President Dean Sink returned to his High Point, NC office and immediately sent a memo to all Mickey employees. He explained that the common question he was asked at every stop was this: “What are you doing to make this Mickey’s best year ever?” So in his memo, he asked his Mickey colleagues the very same question, and the responses were positive, creative and ambitious.
Here’s an example from John Pierce, Van Body Product Engineer and 5-year Mickey veteran: “Personally, I’m spending more time in the shop listening to the employees that do the work every day. I’m incorporating their continuous improvement ideas when applicable and cost effective. As a group within the engineering department in our product segment, we make corrections when mistakes are made so as not to repeat the same ones twice. Credibility is earned by correcting these issues when shop employees bring them to our attention. I am also working with the shop guys at their particular stations to understand their concerns regarding how difficult a particular task may be. Understanding their issues and implementing methods and/or design changes to overcome work obstacles will re-energize them to produce quality work, versus merely completing tasks …”
